SWIRE SCHOLARSHIPS AND PROFESSORSHIPS
The Swire Group supports a broad range of educational initiatives worldwide, including scholarships from post-secondary to postgraduate level, as well as named professorships at universities. Our scholarships assist students studying in the Hong Kong SAR, the UK and the Chinese Mainland, while our professorships in Hong Kong help advance academic excellence and research at leading institutions.
At Swire, we believe that giving young people the opportunity to flourish is one of the most meaningful ways of contributing to the communities that have helped us grow and prosper.
Our commitment to education began in the early 1900s when Swire donated £40,000 towards the establishment of The University of Hong Kong. Today, we continue this commitment through a wide variety of scholarship programmes, as well as professorships. The global community of Swire Scholars cultivated over the past century carries the spirit of excellence forward, serving and enriching society in different ways.
Scholarships
Hong Kong SAR*
Swire Postgraduate Scholarships are available for the following programme:
- MSc in Integrative Marine Ecology and Conservation at The University of Hong Kong
Swire Youth Scholarships are available for:
- Any Bachelor’s, Associate or Higher Diploma at recognised higher education institutions in Hong Kong
UK*
Swire Postgraduate Scholarships are available for:
- Any Master’s / PhD programme available at St Antony’s College, the University of Oxford
- PhD in Carbon Sequestration at the University of Southampton
- Selected Master’s programmes in Sustainability at the University of Aberdeen
Swire Youth Scholarships are available for:
- Any Bachelor’s programme available at University College and the University of Oxford
- Any Bachelor’s programme at any university in the UK

Professorships
Swire supports academia through named professorships, beginning in 1919 with the Taikoo Professorship of Engineering at The University of Hong Kong. Today, our named professorships also include the Swire Professorship in Marine Conservation at the same institution and the Swire Professorship in Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
