Hongkong United Dockyards Limited (HUD) was formed in 1972 through the merger of Hong Kong's two leading dockyard and engineering companies; Taikoo Dockyard & Engineering Company and Hongkong & Whampoa Dock Company. Headquartered in Tsing Yi, the company offers a combination of engineering facilities with direct sea access, ideally suited to servicing major projects in Hong Kong.
The HUD group's Engineering Division provides both marine and land-based services. Its marine expertise encompasses a wide range of ship repair work, including dry-docking, alongside, and harbour repairs. In recent years, the division has also expanded its scope of services to include regular maintenance of container terminal facilities and public utilities. To meet the upsurge in infrastructure and construction projects in Hong Kong, the division has developed a strong team of engineers and technicians with the skills to participate in a range of large-scale, multi-disciplinary heavy industrial engineering projects, providing one-stop, turnkey solutions to its clients.
In 2015, HUD formed the joint venture company, Hongkong United Reinforcement Engineering Limited (HURE), to offer a solution to the limitations of traditional on-site handling of steel materials in the local construction industry. Through its world-class rebar processing facility, the company produces high-quality prefabricated steel, as well as other cut and bent reinforcement bar products, in accordance with customers’ requirements. Its products not only offer improved construction quality, but also ensure better site safety, environmental protection, time-management and cost-effectiveness. Taking advantage of its seafront access and close proximity to main arterial roads, HURE also provides customised logistics and supply chain solutions, from steel supply to product delivery services to designated construction sites, offering optimal distribution services to its clients.
