Swire Shipping (formerly known as The China Navigation Company) was established by Swire in 1872 – originally to operate paddle steamers on the Chinese Mainland's Yangtze River. Headquartered in Singapore, Swire Shipping today is a leading provider of specialist customer solutions for a wide range of cargoes, enabling trade in more than 90 countries.

Swire Shipping is the wholly owned shipping arm of John Swire & Sons Limited. Headquartered in Singapore, the company has offices in 17 countries and employs over 2,500 seafaring and shore personnel globally. The company owns and manages a global vessel network, offering its customers high frequency liner shipping services and specialist shipping services to energy and infrastructure sectors in the project logistics market.

Swire Projects, a division under Swire Shipping, was established in October 2020 to provide specialist shipping services to the energy, renewable and infrastructure sector.

In July 2021, Swire Shipping ventured into landside logistics services such as customs clearance, inland transportation services and cargo management solutions, complementing its existing liner shipping products.

Swire Bulk Pte. Ltd.

Swire Bulk Pte. Ltd.

Founded in 2012, Swire Bulk was initially the dry bulk shipping arm of The China Navigation Company (now rebranded as Swire Shipping). It became an independent entity in January 2021 and is now a leading vessel owner and operator specialising in transporting cargoes in the dry bulk segment. Swire Bulk currently own and chartered-in a fleet of 125 modern, fuel-efficient vessels worldwide, predominantly in the handysize and supra / ultramax sector.

Consort Express Lines

Swire subsidiary, Steamships Trading Company, has a 70% shareholding in Consort Express Lines, a leading provider of coastal and river shipping services in Papua New Guinea. Its liner trades service 17 ports in Papua New Guinea and the company also provides project charters.

Offshore Support Services

Pacific Towing (PNG) Limited

Swire subsidiary, Steamships Trading Company, has a 100% shareholding in Pacific Towing, a harbour towing, offshore support and salvage operation that owns and operates 12 tugs and nine line boats across seven ports in Papua New Guinea.

Shipping Agencies and Stevedoring

Swire Shipping Agencies

Swire Shipping operates shipping agencies for its liner shipping trades across multiple ports in Australia, New Zealand, the Chinese Mainland, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Taiwan region, Fiji, Samoa, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. Tradco Shipping Limited and Guadalcanal Travel Services Limited provide shipping and travel agency services respectively in the Solomon Islands.

Quadrant Pacific Limited

Swire Shipping holds a 67% shareholding in Quadrant Pacific, which operates shipping agency services in New Zealand. Quadrant Pacific provides third-party agency services to the forestry and oil industries, as well as husbandry services for Swire Shipping in New Zealand. The company also engages in cargo management, freight forwarding, export documentation, and customs broking services in New Zealand from its office in Tauranga. Cubic Transport Limited, a non-vessel operating common carrier that provides domestic shipping solutions in New Zealand, is a jointly-controlled associate of Quadrant Pacific. Quadrant Pacific also owns 50% of Independent Stevedoring Limited, a general and terminal stevedoring business that operates within the ports of Tauranga and Whangarei.

Joint Venture Port Services

Steamships Trading Company division, Joint Venture Port Services, is a shareholder and manager of stevedoring companies in eight major ports in Papua New Guinea, offering a full range of ship-handling facilities in conjunction with local landowner groups.
