The China Navigation Company is the wholly owned deep-sea shipping arm of John Swire & Sons Limited. Headquartered in Singapore, the company has established representative offices in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, India, Papua New Guinea, the USA and the UK. The company operates a global network of multipurpose liner services, dry bulk, and bulk logistics services through its three business divisions: Swire Shipping, Swire Bulk, and Swire Bulk Logistics.
CNCo owns a diverse fleet of container, multipurpose, general cargo and bulk carrier vessels to service its global trades. These owned vessels are supplemented by chartered-in vessels on a mixture of short, medium and long term charters to meet the requirements of CNCo's liner business – Swire Shipping, and handysize dry bulk business – Swire Bulk. CNCo has scaled up its newbuilding programme over the past couple of years to renew and expand its fleet. Twelve eco-friendly multipurpose vessels and 28 handysize bulk carriers, comprising 24 Swire B.Delta39 bulk carriers (20 loggers and four grabbers) and four Imabari 38 loggers were ordered for delivery from 2013 to 2016. In addition, Swire Bulk Logistics will take delivery of a 9,000dwt cement carrier in the last quarter of 2016. The multipurpose fleet is deployed in CNCo's liner shipping business, Swire Shipping, while all 28 handysize bulk carriers will be deployed in CNCo's dry bulk division, Swire Bulk. In addition to vessels deployed in core operating divisions, CNCo has interests in two 2,100 teu container vessels and six 1700 teu newbuilding container vessels through its shareholding in Mandarin Shipping Limited.
